So good to be home...

But so worn out! Phew...

The medication dude didn't come until 1130PM last night (and we were ready for night night at like 7!) And the nurse was going to come at 2PM and came at 11 instead. So sleep was a bit shoddy to say the least. But at least we got some! :) Better then hospital sleep by FAR!

We are both just exhausted and chilling today. Me more then him. He was actually quite wired this AM! Guess he is feeling better.

So not much of an update, but wanted to say HI!! I'll be around later! Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers! We feel loved!

Have a blessed day in the Lord...

Tuesday Update

OK so i came home b/c internet at hospital is just OFF it stinks! and i needed to pay some bills, get the mail and love on the very cranky kitty. (And sift the box! EWWW)

Matt woke up full of it this AM and as he says, a wild hair up his hiney! ROFL He feels SO MUCH better today, better then he has in WEEKS and he is just a day post op and prodding...

I think the fact that he is done with the "torture sessions" has helped his mood. So I left him this AM to run some errands...I've been home once for a 15 min time frame, in the last 4 days! phew.

We are now at the point were we are waiting for his cultures to grow so we know WHAT we are fighting. But there is a 50% chance that NOTHING will grow b/c he had been on antibiotics, in which case we have to wait until a full 5 days of waiting has occured and then we'll go home on a broad spectrum antibiotic. But it would be better to grow something b/c then we know we are using the RIGHT abx for the infection he has...If he has to do just a broad spec, that would be ok, but specific is better. We know the bug is responding to the course of treatment he is on now b/c he is feeling better, so we'll probably just stick with that if nothing grows...

MD took of the dressing and his foot looks SOOOO MUCH BETTER! Still swollen, but not NEARLY like it was...and his pain is MINIMAL. PRAISE GOD! Its amazing to watch God's hand in all of this!!! We know that God is providing our needs, and he is our Jehovah Rapha, our HEALER and Jireh our PROVIDER....He is doing all of that!!!

My Mom in Law was able to front us the $$ we need for the mortgage so we'll be OK with that, AND I spoke with Matt's short term disability for work. They already re-instated his benefit, just basically picked up where it left off from his return to work date and will continue to send us the 70% of his paycheck while he is home sick...Not only that, he can return to work on a part time basis (which is SO recommended for his health and well being), AND whatever amt of hours he wasn't able to work, they'll pay 70% of that (EX: if he can only work 20 hours out of 40, they'll give him full pay for the 20 worked, and 70% of the 20 not worked) WHAT A BLESSING!

So we are having a GOOD day and I'm just feeling major relief. Got a pretty good night sleep last night, the nurses left us alone and we slept until EIGHT (Very unheard of in the hospital!!!)

SO that's it! Our daily update! smile.gif Thank you for your prayers and thoughts and emails. You all have been fabulous!

PRAYER REQUESTS:
1. CULTURES to grow so we know what bug we are fighting and have the right med
2. Continued healing and improvement for matt
3. Continued strength through this process

PRAISE OUR GOD FOR THE GREAT THINGS HE HAS ALREADY DONE!!!!!

LOVE YOU GUYS wub.gif

Have a blessed day in the Lord!

Matt Update MONDAY

Matt's surgery went very very well. but he has been in, quote "the 9th ring of hell" all day today...
Surgery this morning showed very little infectious stuff (no abscess or pus pockets) just major inflammatory changes and stuff. he cleaned everything out and stitched up his wound and took some more deep tissue cultures. Looks good in an infection since.

Then he came back up to the room after a bone scan, where he proceeded to have his lovely bladder spasms that ended him having to be cath'd again (like last time in surgery) The boy doesn't listen to his smart wife who TOLD him to have a foley cath in SURGERY and take it out after his bladder is awake...but not nice at all...

Then they were going to bring him downstairs later and sedate him to do the PICC line placement. They were gonna give just a little IV sedation, knock him out, put in the line, and wah-lah all done wake up life goes on. Well 15 minutes before they came for him, his IV blew in his hand, and he no longer had IV access. SO they came up and he hadn't gotten an IV yet (which turned out to be a blessing) b/c they were able to convince matt to go with the PICC line while awake. He said it was limited discomfort and he did SO WELL!!! I'm so proud of him for enduring it...Some not so nice words came out of his mouth, but I think God will forgive him based on what he was having done! hee hee....

But just praise God he is doing so well (after leaving his 9th ring of hell of course)....We are waiting on his cultures to start growing some buggies, so we know what antibiotic would be the most beneficial to go home with. Don't want to do all of this for the wrong bug and be taking the wrong antibiotic. So we'll be here a couple more days. But the torture is over with for now. So that's it! That is our update for today! Praising God we made it through this very difficult day! Talk to you later!

Prayer Requests
1. Continued healing and pain relief
2. Quick growing cultures so we know what bug we are fighting
3. Wisdom and strength for the MD's in all of this
4. Finances, we have 3 days till mortgage is due and we are $400 behind....

Matt is in the Hospital

Hi everyone! I'm gonna throw a ton of info at you, so please bear with me....

Matt was admitted to the hospital with Cellulitis and Osteomyelitis yesterday...He's been on antibiotics (read previous post), but he worsened overnight on Friday after only limited improvement throughout the week. We went to urgent care yesterday (for my peace of mind) and they didn't even do anything, just wrote a direct admit for the hospital, which is nice b/c you bypass that sitting in the ER junk...

They started him initially on triple antibiotic therapy (ancef, gent and clinda for the nurses) and pain meds to help. He needs to have a bone scan to confirm the depth of the infection b/c the XRAY is only showing "severe inflammatory process around hardware and bones"...so they aren't 100% sure its invaded the bone but that is what they are treating it as. The bone scan will have a hard time distinguishing from "post op stuff" and "infection stuff". So they might not do it. we' aren't sure yet

Anyway, MD just came by and updated us and thankfully even though the foot is showing obvious signs of bone infection its also showing obvious signs of IMPROVEMENT today PRAISE GOD... Matt has a very long recovery coming, and will be admitted AT LEAST through Wednesday this week.

Here is the process. Matt has to go in for surgery tomorrow for an I&D (incision and drainage), they are going to open the wound, drain any abscess found, culture it again, irrigate real well then close up the wound. They also are going to put in a PICC line or central line (Long term ports for antibiotics) hopefully around the same time so that he doesn't have to feel them being put in...Sedated is a GOOD thing. He will come home on antibiotics and be on them for the next 3-6 weeks. We are hoping the bone is fusing in his foot (he is almost 7 weeks post op) b/c they need to take out the hardware. I guess once there is infection, it becomes a constant breeding ground, so it has to be removed, but not until the foot is fused. Make sense?

Then he will continue IV antibiotics for another 4-6 weeks at home after that to make sure the bone is completely free of bacteria. They are checking him for MRSA, but b/c of the rapid response we are getting from the current antibiotics, they think its some other form of bacteria. Another PRAISE GOD.

He has shown MARKED improvement today and foot is looking so much better but still w/pretty strong pain. WE also saw an infectious disease doc who changed his antibiotics to Rocephin and Vancomycin (Vanco is a POTENT drug, they have to draw daily levels to make sure his body isn't overdosing on it) WE're hoping he goes home on rocephin b/c it is a once or twice a day med, easier to maintain so he can at least work part time.

Phew.. A LOT OF INFO??? I need to get back to the hospital, here are some requests

Prayers:
1. surgery goes w/o an issue tomorrow, find the infection and remove it, no complications
2. they are able to put in the long term port while matt is still sedated
3. No complications with his peeing (he has a hard time going b/c of spasms and then his bladder gets all spastic. NOT good, usually needs catheter)
4. Finances, we are really really REALLY struggling and now matt is out of work indefinitly, I know God can provide, just getting antsy!
5. God will bring peace and calm over him. He is stressed, cranky and just plain upset.

OK off to hospital!!! Talk to you all soon! Feel free to give us a call or come by and visit. Matt is in need of the company and just struggling with all of this. I could use the company too! :) Bring a BALLOON!! Hee hee, it will make him smile!

Have a blessed day in the Lord...

Ruh-Roh

As my Mother in Law would say!! (she always seems to quote scooby doo) hee hee

So: BIG SIGH!

Matt's foot is infected. That sore on his foot has gotten worse and not better, even with 3x a day dressing changes. Called the MD today b/c matt started running a low grade fever and not feeling well, foot very red, swollen and painful. :( Poor bubby..

They wanted to admit him immediately for IV antibiotics, but I wanted to try oral first since redness decreases with Advil and fever is low grade. That and Matt does better at home and was getting freaked out about possibly being re-admitted to the hospital. (Can you blame him?) So they started him on high dose antibiotics 3x a day for the next 14 DAYS!!!

HOWEVER, if he spikes a higher temp today (> 100.5) or tomorrow, pain/redness/drainage worsens, we have to immediately go to the ER. So we are praying that the antibiotics will help and he will be feeling better in the next day or so.

He took tomorrow off so he can keep his footsie elevated and clean and to rest in general. Please pray for his immediate healing and that we can avoid the ER!

Thanks! Have a blessed day in the Lord.

Just Checking In

Things have been busy since Daytona. I've been working pretty frequently sittin' on babies, Matt went back to work on Monday (YAYAYAYAY!), and the house has been kept up on!! (which is a miracle in itself)

We went for a post op appt on Wednesday and had the cast taken off of matt's footsie. The bone itself looks good, its healing, but we found that an incision area didn't heal properly while casted. Matt has an open sore on his big toe about the size of a q-tip head, and its oozy and red and swollen. They do not think its infected b/c Matt doesn't have severe pain, which is good, but he has to have wet to dry dressing changes 3 x a day. Matt's frustrated b/c its not healing "perfectly" like past surgeries. I try to tell him that if this is the first time he has had an issue with the dozens of surgeries he's had to have, then YAY. He didn't go for it.

So my kitchen has become the "dressing area" full of gauze and kerlex, and betadine. FUN O FUN. Always something going on. SO if you could please keep him in your prayers, that the wound will continue to heal with very little issue and no infection.

Oh in other news, my dear friend L from high school is GETTING MARRIED! I'm so excited for her! She has asked me and our friend N to be in the wedding. The downfall is its in SIX WEEKS! ACK in PENNSYLVANIA! EEK. So end of August I'll be flying to PA. I'm kinda excited about it really. Should be fun! I'll fly up with N (lives locally here) and we'll get to be all purdy together!!!!!

OK off to do some laundry. Have a blessed day in the Lord!!!!

We are taping from 630-the end of the race just cuz! The presentation is supposed to be at 7:16pm but again, not sure if it will be televised, but there are these pre show things that it JUST MAY BE broadcasted. WHO KNOWS!
